Dr. Alaina James, a proud native of Beaver Falls, PA, grew up with a supportive family in a tight knit community that encouraged her passion for science and biology from a young age. After graduating from Beaver Falls High School, she moved on to study at prestigious institutions, earning degrees from Yale University, Baylor College of Medicine, and the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. James’ career spans roles as an educator, researcher, and medical dermatologist, where she has served resilient communities, medical centers, and universities. After years of professional experience, she decided it was time to open her own practice and give back to the Beaver County communities that had supported her in her youth.
It was during this process that she discovered a surprising connection to the Ambridge area. Dr. James purchased a building on Merchant Street, only to later learn that her father’s first job as an attorney had been just a block away. This discovery strengthened her commitment to serve the community in a meaningful way.
To move forward with her business plans, Dr. James reached out to the Beaver County Corporation for Economic Development (CED), which referred her to the University of Pittsburgh Small Business Development Center (Pitt SBDC). Working closely with Pitt SBDC consultant Brent Rondon, she navigated the complexities of business registration, permits, regulations, and the planning a grand opening.

Today, Dr. James’ vision has become a reality with the opening of Skin Mind Health, a dermatology, yoga, meditation, and community space. Reflecting her commitment to serving her community, the business offers a unique “Friday: Pay What You Can Day,” in line with her philosophy of giving back to her community. Dr. James’ story illustrates how the right support and determination can help aspiring entrepreneurs turn their goals into reality and create positive community impact.
